InterviewSkills

Listen. Organise. Respond.

One communication practice session, from listening to clear expression.

Practice the different ways you use English in a recruitment round: reading aloud, understanding what you hear, building a sentence and explaining an idea. InterviewSkills brings these tasks into a combined practice exam.

Work through eight connected phases

The combined session includes reading aloud, repeating sentences, short spoken answers, sentence building, story retelling, open questions, email writing and reading comprehension. The first seven phases contain 10 tasks each. Comprehension adds two passages with 10 questions per passage, making 90 tasks in the complete exam.

Tasks and phases advance in sequence. Listening tasks play their audio before the response timer begins. Prepare your microphone, browser audio and fullscreen setup before starting, and allow enough uninterrupted time for the complete session.

Practice listening for meaning and structure

For repeating a sentence, listen for its main idea and the order of the words instead of focusing on only the final phrase. For story retelling, remember who was involved, what happened, why it happened and how it ended. Your retelling can use your own words while keeping the important facts.

For example, if a story describes a team discovering a missing file, checking its backup and finishing a presentation, organise your retelling around the problem, the action and the result. Avoid adding details that were never in the story. A clear sequence is more useful than an unnecessarily long response.

Build clear spoken and written responses

An open answer benefits from a simple structure: state your view, give a reason, support it with one example and finish with a direct conclusion. For email writing, identify the recipient and purpose before drafting. Include the information the reader needs to act, and use an appropriate closing.

  • Read aloud at a comfortable pace rather than rushing through punctuation.
  • Answer the question asked before adding supporting detail.
  • For comprehension, return to the passage to check evidence for your choice.

Understand what the practice result means

A completed exam uses a 60% overall practice pass mark, with no separate cutoff for each phase. The report includes section results, saved responses, question timing and explanations. An exited or incomplete attempt is reported as incomplete, rather than being treated as a completed pass.

Reading and repetition feedback checks transcribed wording; it is not a pronunciation or accent assessment. Other open responses can receive labelled AI content feedback. The session is InterviewSkills practice, not an official Versant test or a company certification. Question selection rotates through finite banks, so content may repeat after earlier material has been used.

Before you begin

Common questions

Is communication practice divided by company?

No. The current combined exam follows eight communication phases in one session, helping you practice several relevant skills together.

Does passing certify my spoken English or pronunciation?

No. The result is a practice outcome. The application does not issue an official company or Versant certification, and transcript matching does not establish pronunciation quality.
